Klassifikation

Das Zay gehΓΆrt zu den Γ€thiosemitischen Sprachen, einer Untergruppe der semitischen Sprachen. Das Γ„thiosemitische teilt sich in die beiden Gruppen Nord- und SΓΌdΓ€thiosemitisch. Das Zay wird den Ostgurage-Sprachen zugerechnet, die eine Untergruppe des Transversalen SΓΌdΓ€thiosemitischen bildencite-ref-1[1]. Als die am nΓ€chsten verwandten Sprachen gelten das Harari, das Silt'e und das Wolane.
